Our meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month.  Every Milk & Honey Quilters meeting is highlighted by Show 'n' Tell, when quilters share the progress of their latest creations.  Both completed and unfinished projects are welcomed.  Open to everyone, most meetings are held at the American Legion building off Route 7 South in Middlebury.

Connie Farrington, “Putting Whimsy in Your Quilt”

 Connie Harris Farrington’s wall quilts are primarily whimsical pieces about women. She will use her quilts  to suggest ways to include humor in your own creations, large and small. Her quilts have appeared in Quilter’s Newsletter, the American Quilter, Quilting Today and in the AQS quilt calendar. She has won ribbons and awards at many national shows. Come and smile at her quilts.

Pam Druhen Trunk Show, “Quilting for Real”

Pamela Druhen is a Vermont quilt/fiber artist whose quilted landscapes are intricate and realistic, fashioned with fabric and painted in thread. She has been competing on a national level since 2002. To see some of Pam’s work go to pameladruhen.com.

Pam Druen Workshop, “Vermont Window”

Where and When: American Legion: 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

In this one day workshop Pamela will offer students instructions on an easy construction and simple piecing technique using freezer paper templates to create a pieced seasonal landscape. Details and costs will be presented at the September guild meeting. Preregistration required.

Richard Cleveland, “The A to Z’s of Antique Quilts”

When: 7:00 p.m.

Richard Cleveland is a dynamic speaker who has a long association with the Vermont Quilt Festival. In addition, he is a well-known authority on antique quilts. He will discuss the history of quilt patterns as well as the processes used in a particular time period to make the quilt. He will also discuss the proper way to store and care for antique quilts. If you have any questions about an antique quilt Richard is the person to ask.

Annual Holiday Pot Luck and Yankee Gift Exchange

When: 5:30 p.m. appetizers and sparkling cider; 6:00 p.m. dinner.

Where: Middlebury Community House

Once again we will celebrate the holidays together at the beautifully decorated Middlebury Community House. Come enjoy GOOD FOOD at the pot luck dinner and GOOD FUN at the Yankee gift exchange. Guests are welcome. As we will be meeting in early December it will put us all in the holiday spirit! Contact Emmy by December 4 to RSVP and discuss your menu options. Don’t forget to bring a wrapped, quilt-related gift for the Yankee gift exchange.

Service Project: Pillows for Pets – a benefit for Addison County Humane Society

When: 7:00 p.m.

Come and help us make pillows for the less fortunate pets of Addison County. The Quilters’ Corner at Middlebury Sew-N-Vac collects scraps and supplies throughout the year and will be bringing all the necessary supplies. A few sewing machines will be necessary. This is a wonderful service project and the Addison County Humane Society and their inhabitants are always thrilled with the new pillows. Join us for this fun-filled and very rewarding evening.

Phyllis Anderson, Sweet ’n Sassy Book Signing

and Lecture “How an Idea Becomes an Obession”

 Phyllis is a design artist who has taught and lectured throughout the United States over the past fifteen years. She has published more than twenty-five original patterns which are available through Checker Distributors and is currently working on her first book for Landauer Publishing called Sweet ‘n Sassy. A former quilt shop owner (of the oldest quilt shop in New England) and teacher, she is very well versed in the art of quilt-making. She teaches classes for all levels of quilters in traditional piecing as well as wearable art. She is also working on her first line of fabric for Henry Glass, named “Giselle.”  Her latest accomplishment is a template set called “Sweet n’ Sassy” which is being produced and marketed by Creative Grid Rulers. Another template is in the works to help quilters make an eight-pointed star without any “y” seams.

Phyllis Anderson Workshop “Maddie Bea’s”

Intermediate to Advanced Level: Limited to 20 students ($25 per participant)

 “Maddie Bea’s” is designed after an antique quilt Phyllis found at a quilt shop. She designed a three-piece template set, which allows you to make perfect intersections with the blocks as well as the sashing and set-ins. Included is a mini as a bi-product of the quilt. Here is a great class to learn about color selection and how to use templates. Your project will not be completed in class.

Maureen McClintock, “Haiti PeaceQuilts”

Founding member Maureen McClintock will talk about “PeaceQuilts”, a nonprofit organization relieving poverty in Haiti by establishing and supporting independent women’s quilting cooperatives. Currently they work with approximately 100 women organized into seven cooperatives. PeaceQuilts provides training, materials, supplies, marketing assistance, and educationa opportunities. Their goal is to help each cooperative to become self-managed and self-sustaining. For more information go to www.haitipeacequilts.org.

Kathryn Schloff, “Silk Scarf Painting”

When: 7:00 p.m.

Kathryn Schloff has been painting silk scarves for many years and the results are beautiful. Each participant will take home a 24"x24" hand painted 100% silk scarf using a design that they painted and created themselves using silk paint and a resist technique. Registration is necessary and the workshop is limited to 12 people. You will want to wear painting clothes (or bring a smock) and bring a hair dryer. A final cost is to be determined but should be in the $10 to $15 range per person. This fee includes use of the paints and the scarf.
